Exploring the wst
Discover the vision behind the WST: a next-generation observatory uniting ambitious science, cutting-edge technology, and a bold roadmap to explore the Universe.
Science goals
A new window on the Universe’s big questions
The WST will be pivotal to tackle some of the key open questions in modern astrophysics.
The WST was conceived to transform our understanding of the Universe through large-scale spectroscopy.
Project Timeline
Project timeline
The project roadmap is defined by two concurrent timelines. On one side, there is the set of milestones identified by the Horizon EU programme, spanning three years starting on February 1st, 2025, and the other by ESO’s Expanding Horizons process, aimed at selecting the next major project after the ELT.
The WST Chronicle
The WST Chronicle is a tri-monthly magazine that provides a platform for communicating progress within the WST consortium while serving as a bridge to the wider community.
